This is a presentation given to the SEG Europe Regional Advisory Committee on 11 May 2021 entitled “CSEM – Why is the industry ignoring the evidence?”. The presentation describes the basic theory of Controlled Source Electromagnetics before sharing examples of CSEM successes and failures. It compares success rates of prospects drilled with seismic Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators (DHIs) with those drilled on CSEM data and considers whether any dry holes could have been avoided if more note of CSEM data had been taken.
The presentation is based on the full report “Electromagnetic Data – Why is Industry Ignoring the Evidence” published in November 2020.
