The offshore wind sector is entering a period of strong growth, creating a need for new capacity and expertise throughout the value chain. At the Lloyd’s List Marine Operations Supporting Offshore Wind Conference 2012, an industry survey was carried out by Douglas-Westwood to identify specific bottle-necks and challenges. Areas of concern identified ranged from lack of suitable port facilities in key markets to competition with the oil & gas sector for skilled personnel. While these risks and challenges may constrain development in the short term, they also create long-term opportunity for early-movers and new entrants.
