The Assignment / Client’s Problem
- Our client a multi-national E&P company was looking to enter Suriname through the acquisition of interests in offshore exploration blocks
- The company was looking for an integrated subsurface study at the basin scale to identify high graded blocks and consequently the best farm-in exploration opportunities
Westwood’s Approach & Analysis
- Project was based on a data pack provided by the government of Suriname.
- Basin evolution, regional mapping using gravity, magnetic and seismic data and key wells, source rock distribution and plays definition
- Play fairway analysis and identification of technical success factors and play risks
- Thermal history modelling to understand charge and petroleum systems
- Common Risks Segment Mapping, identification of prospective areas (‘sweet spots’, traffic light mapping)
- Risked leads inventory and volumetric estimates
- Prepared integrated project report and held review workshops with our client
The Outcome & Benefit
- Westwood delivered a comprehensive technical study, within the agreed budget and time frame
- Provided offshore Suriname ‘sweet spots’ (high-graded blocks), risked prospects and volumetric estimates to the client
- Our client then asked Westwood to undertake a further similar study on the conjugate margin in West Africa
