The Role

We are seeking an Analyst to join our NW Europe E&P team in London. The team provides unique technical and commercial insights to our NW Europe clients to support exploration and business decisions, delivered through online databases, reports and analysis.

The role involves monitoring and collating data on regional E&P activity through primary and secondary research, analysing data and providing insight to clients through high quality reports and presentations. In particular, you will be responsible for the research output on exploration, appraisal and farm-out activities in NW Europe. In addition, you will contribute to Westwood’s wider global research offerings and have a good understanding of market trends and the impact of the energy transition.

 

Primary responsibilities of the role include:

  • Primary and secondary research into NW Europe energy activities, with a particular focus on exploration and appraisal (E&A)
  • Maintain the NW Europe Atlas database through quality and timely data updates
  • Write detailed reports of E&A wells and monthly reporting of E&A activity and performance
  • Generate market commentary, written reports and deliver presentations to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain a strong professional network across the E&P sector through client meetings, industry events and conferences
  • Contribute to the design and future development of the Atlas research product
  • Collaborate with other Westwood research and consulting teams across our global offices to provide unique and best-in-class insights to our clients across the energy industry

 

About You

You should have at least 3 years’ relevant experience in the oil and gas industry with a good understanding of the subsurface. North Sea experience is desirable

  • Intellectual curiosity: as an analyst for a global thought-leader, the role requires a genuine interest in oil and gas exploration, as well as the macroeconomic, business and market dynamics of the global energy industry. You should be especially eager to understand your specific field and how it fits into the wider energy industry.
  • Ownership: Westwood’s analysts are expected to take ownership of their market coverage and analysis, leveraging expertise across the group but also demonstrating independence and pride in their work.
  • Analytical: the successful candidate will have a problem-solving and methodical mindset, as well as the ability to collate, process and interpret data from a variety of different sources.
  • Diligence: a dedication to excellence is expected and the successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of efficiency and accuracy in written and quantitative work. An understanding of best practice with regards to data sources, including which to trust, is vital.
  • Communication skills: the successful candidate will be expected to liaise directly with Westwood’s clients at all levels, therefore the ability to receive and summarise information as well as clearly and professionally communicate work both internally and externally is key. Excellent verbal and written English is essential.
  • Team player: ability to work cohesively with colleagues and form professional relationships at all levels.
  • Eagerness to develop: the successful candidate will always be striving to improve both their understanding of relevant markets and develop their skillset to further both themselves and the business. Examples of this could include learning new skills or attending conferences.

 

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree, Masters or PhD level in a relevant Earth Science subject such as Geology or Geoscience
  • Excellent verbal and written English with the ability to produce concise and insightful written reports on a regular basis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office in particular Microsoft Excel (data handling / manipulation)

 

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience of GIS software and relational databases
  • Good understanding and hands on experience using visualisation tools
  • Knowledge of the CCS industry
